I hope you're all well. I just wanted to give you a little information about the progress I've made regarding this Left 4 Dead
fan comic I've been talking about.
First of all, you may see another character turn around sheet on my profile that is a work in progress. I am creating one of these sheets for all of the survivors, special infected, and even a few common infected so I can get the features in proportion and so I know what everyone's head looks like from each angle. This is something I want to use to keep the characters consistent throughout the comic.
Secondly, I'm currently putting all effort into the writing process, as I may have more time to do that than actually draw over the next two months. I'm expecting to be very busy with work in the run up to Christmas, and to be working longer hours than normal. Currently, I have planned major events in the comic regarding character relationships and interactions all the way up to the end of the "Dark Carnival
" campaign in Left 4 Dead 2
, so it's safe to say that the outlining of major events is almost done. I just have a few more campaigns to go.
In terms of the actual script, I'm on the eighth chapter, and even though I'm well aware that a first draft won't be perfect, I am very happy with the results so far. There will be 15-30 pages per chapter, featuring around 8-12 panels a page, and the comic will be a vertical strip, rather than a normal comic book page. I'll be sure to check out the best resolutions and document types to use when I start actually drawing.
I will also be practising with drawing anatomy in the interim to try and get the proportion aspect right for when I start drawing the comic. After Christmas, I'm hoping to purchase a set of Body-Kun figurines for pose referencing to make sure I can create dynamic and realistic poses for the fan comic.
The reason I'm putting so much work into this is because I want to use this as my skill-building platform. I want to practice drawing, colouring, shading, lighting, the use of speech bubbles and to make sure my storytelling skills are up to par. I'm not kidding when I say it could be 6-12 months before you actually see this comic, but that's only because I want it to be of good quality from the outset, and to use it as a way to practice and improve my skills, rather than learn the skills I need.
If you guys have any questions about the fan comic, or if you want to ask me anything about my OC, feel free to drop me a note or leave a comment on this journal.
Also, if you have read every word of this all the way to the end, very
well done and thank you so, so
much! Seriously, I don't mean to, but I do tend to ramble.
